The Curse of Counter Offers

Today we’re tackling a topic we haven’t actually covered at all on the podcast before – counter offers. That’s the scenario you face when an employee comes to you with a resignation, and you make them an offer, a counter offer, to try and entice them to stay with you. Conversely, it’s the situation that arises when someone you are trying to hire gets made an offer from their current employer to turn down your employment offer.
Counter offers can be a tricky beast. It’s important when considering them to truly understand the applicant or employees motivation around making a move, to consider the ripple effect it will have with the rest of the team, and to look at what you are actually gaining in this process.
